We all knew for some time that this was coming, yet, I don’t believe any of us were any less devastated by the news.

I suppose I have worshiped Duane and Gregg Allman since the first time I saw them perform, in July, 1968. The audience that night, at the old Comic Book Club, was comprised primarily of younger Jacksonville musicians, all of which had to have come away equally impressed. It was Ronnie Van Zant who had told me about the brothers, but it would be me shouting their praises to the rest of the world after witnessing three phenomenal performances by their band, the Hour Glass, over those three very magical nights. A memory I will treasure for the rest of my days.
